Banksy - Punking Paris Hilton

Take from the BBC website

Hundreds of Paris Hilton albums have been tampered with in the latest stunt by "guerrilla artist" Banksy.
Banksy has replaced Hilton's CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?

He has also changed pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog's head.

A spokeswoman for Banksy said he had doctored 500 copies of her debut album Paris in 48 record shops across the UK.

She told the BBC News website: "He switched the CDs in store, so he took the old ones out and put his version in."

It might be that there will be some people who agree with his views on the Paris Hilton album
HMV spokesman
But he left the original barcode so people could buy the CD without realising it had been interfered with.

Banksy is notorious for his secretive and subversive stunts such as sneaking doctored versions of classic paintings into major art galleries.

His spokeswoman said he had tampered with the CDs in branches of HMV and Virgin as well as independent record stores.

He visited cities including Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and London, she added.

A spokesman for HMV said the chain had recovered seven CDs from two Brighton shops but was unaware that other locations were affected.

Boxi's 11 Color Stencil - "To Die For"

Most stencil graffiti is done quick and usually no more then 2 colors. This video was done by a someone named Boxi and is called "To Die For." It is made up of 11 different life size stencils. The cool thing about this is the piece is based to two lovers from Afghanistan that tried to elope. The girl was in her late teens and the guy was 21, she was a Sunni and he was a Shiite. They had plans to flee to Iran to get married. The thing is they never told there parents about it cause they knew their parents would oppose. When their parent found out they dispatched gunmen to pursue them. The two were caught then convicted of immoral acts and executed with ak-47s in front of a crowd. The image painted is not of the couple it's more of a tribute. The piece was done in Athen.

If you care to read more about the two lovers.

Info about the stencil taken from here

Died Young, Stayed Pretty DVD Now Available

Died Young, Stayed Pretty is a candid look at the underground poster culture in North America. This unique documentary examines the creative spirit that drives these indie graphic artists. They pick through the dregs of America’s schizophrenic culture and piece them back together. What you end up with is a caricature of the black and bloated heart that pulses greed through the US economy. The artists push further into the pulp to grab the attention of passersby, plastering art that’s both vulgar and intensely visceral onto the gnarled surfaces of the urban landscape. The film gives us intimate look at some of the giants of this modern subculture. Outside of their own circle, they’re virtually unknown. But within their ranks they make up an army of bareknuckle brawlers, publicly arguing the aesthetic merits of octopus imagery and hairy 70s porn stars. They’ve created their own visual language for describing the spotty underbelly of western civilization and they're not shy about throwing it in the face of polite society. Along the way, they manage to create posters that are strikingly obscene, unflinchingly blasphemous and often quite beautiful. Yaghoobian shows these artists for what they are: the vivisectionists of America’s morbidly obese consumer culture. Purchase it here, diedyoungstayedpretty.com

Shepard Fairey - Obey Elephant

So one of the most anticipated prints of the year from Shepard Fairey has a release date Thursday 4/9 at a random time. I believe it's 18"x24" has a edition of 450 and is around $50. Buy it at ObeyGiant.com. I haven't heard any mention of it anywhere but the flame on the elephant looks like the Black Label logo.

New Space Invader Video

This video is totally going to bother me. So basically i'm thinking the cops came determined it was not graffiti or moved what he was doing into a bracket that doesn't fit into vandalism, allowed him to finish and moved on. Of course there is the possibility of this all being staged. This is like the graffiti artist dream to be accepted by the enemy and granted free passage to all territory. Whatever it makes me feel there might a goal, it's just what do you do then. Click for more work from Space Invader.

The video ends with Shepard saying Iv'e been arrested 14 times I love the rush of doing something I'm not suppose to be doing I am USA's character approved winner. If only everyone was as open minded as the USA network.

"Balloonist" A New Form of Art

Talk about insane, I don't know if you have ever seen a chinese paper lantern. Well a Chinese paper lantern is about as big as a beach ball and is made of all biodegradable materials its lit from the bottom by a sort of charcoal the hot air makes it float up and the charcoal make it glow. Well these guys took it a few steps farther. This video takes place in Sao Paulo, Brasil. There they have a group of artist called "balloonist" it's totally illegal and is done only with Chinese paper, glue, gas and fire.

Don't Act So Surprised

Every now and then I want to post things I think are cool that are happening all over the world. The "don't act so surprised" is to the folks in Jacksonville. To that cop in Jax Beach that was about to crap in his pants calling the bathroom stall I put a poster on "his building" and every 5 seconds I was 5 seconds from going to jail. I just want to say people all over the world do some form of street art, maybe more then the amount of people that play shuffle board. Its not absurd, and insane. What is insane is there are millions of people that are forced to be brain washed by the repetitiveness of there surrounding and they don't do anything about it. I do enjoy street ideas more when that are not permanent like spray painting on brick.
